What's your take on 295/30 for DCT cars which don't run into the gearing consequence (or less so) that MT cars do?

I might still (or rather, am planning to) run it at least once on 10.5 wide just to see if I like it (and to get a bit shorter FD) but always good to hear experience from someone who tried it and went back to 275. Feels like 295/30 ECF square seems like a good tradeoff to get a bit more grip than the 275 (or minimize tradeoff of running ECF vs super 200) but still be a long lasting tire with the benefit of a equivalent shorter FD.

I like 275/35 on a 18x10.5 but if 295 provides some sort of benefit (or tradeoff, rather)...

maybe it makes sense to run a 3.45 with 275/35 rear but I think that would put me into "I don't want to do highway trips at 4000rpm" territory, so 3.15 with 295/30 might be the sweet spot for me.
I am running a 295/30 on a 10.5 square. I thought it did really well granted it was my first track day and I am on a PS4S.

I am DCT though and had no issues with mph. I raced at Dominion Raceway in VA and was able to hit 143 indicated at the top of the straight. I do know the speedometer reads ~6-7 mph faster than what GPS will indicate.

This probably doesn't help a whole lot, but my .02. I have no experience on a 275/35 etc on this car.

Would you really be a 4k w/ the 275/35 and 3.46? I haven't run the numbers, so I'll take your word for it.
Probably not at typical highway speeds when commuting, but probably when trekking it to a track in the middle of nowhere (Thunderhill or Buttonwillow).

Using an online calculator with bad rounding and ballparks:
- 3.15, 3300RPM, 275/35/18: 80mph
- 3.15, 3500RPM, 275/35/18: 85mph
- 3.15, 3400RPM, 295/30/18: 80mph
- 3.15, 3600RPM, 295/30/18: 85mph

+ 250rpm-ish for 3.45
- 3.45, 3650RPM, 275/35/18: 80mph
- 3.45, 3850RPM, 275/35/18: 85mph
- 3.45, 3750RPM, 295/30/18: 80mph
- 3.45, 3950RPM, 295/30/18: 85mph

+ 150-200rpm-ish for 3.62 (too lazy to type)
but 4150RPM for 295/30/18 going 85mph, which is probably gonna be a chore on a longer trip

next time I book it to Thunderhill at 11pm I might try keeping the car in 6th to see if it's something I can tolerate

aside: 18x11 would be great to run but I'm not sure if that's viable for a car that still sees street duty at all

Redd's user avatarRedd - btw, all the 285/295 front setups would require a 18" wheel up front, iirc you're on 19s?

Yeah I'm on 19's. That explains a lot....😅
Wow what a weekend. Ran AER at Pitt Race this weekend with Autoworx. We had an E36 and E46 in the event. Weather was crap which played to our driver's advantage (most solid group of drivers I've raced with.) I was in the E36 this weekend and we had three races.

E36 Results: 1st in quali race, 1st on saturday 8 hour, 2nd on sun 8 hour, 1st overall weekend.

E46 Results: 2nd in quali, 3rd Sat, 1st Sun, 2nd overall

My stint Sunday was especially pleasing. I started for us in the rain and the sister car was helmed by a good friend. We lapped the entire class twice before the end of our stints. Two mechanical issues hampered us but the rest of the drivers put in work to get us back up to the top. The E36 missed about 7 laps and the E46 was fixed in less than 2 laps. That was the determining factor.

Video links to come when they are posted. Now I am on a race high until VIR in June to do it again hopefully!

Saturday stint is up. Lots of fun in a very wet track. Sunday event to come soon! Let me know your thoughts!
Right on!!! We ran Lemons last week for a shakedown on our new little 318i. Lots of rain at NOLA.

We had an E30 before the E36, I loved that car. It takes a very talented driver to consistently drive at the limit. Unfortunately for us, the E30 met its demise at Road America two years ago in the WRL series. The kink bit us and our driver dropped one tire off the track by about 8 inches and resulted into a wall impact at 80mph. Driver walked away unscathed and the car did its job.
This is one of my favorite stints, ever. Sunday at Pitt in sleet and big rain. Lapped the class twice in an hour.
Sounds like everyone had an awesome weekend of racing.

The Spec E9X guys were out at Sebring.

I also unveiled my new wrap and livery on my Spec E92.

Since we are sharing our non-e9x cars, I acquired this little guy with a friend in Europe. Bought from RingFreaks and stored at the Nurburgring. Will actually drive it on track for the first time this July and I can’t wait. Will be at the Ring for three weeks!

I sold my E92 M3 but am still a fan on how it sounds and looks.

Here is another reason,E92 M3 tune is way more straight line power than my 981 GT4.

When I’m running a 295/30-18 (track) on my e92 M3 DCT with a 3.62 FD LSD, my actual engine speed at 80 mph in 7th gear is 3900 rpm. With a 285/35-18 (street), the engine speed at 80 mph in 7th gear is 3780 rpm. I find cruising at 80-85 mph perfectly fine. My wife also has no issue with us running at ~3800 rpm for 4.5-5.0 hours straight. It’s nice not having to downshift a gear to pass a slower moving car on the highway unless you intentionally want to hear the glorious sound of the s65 + Karbonius CF plenum + Akra EVO exhaust :D The Drexler six-clutch plate 3.62 FD LSD IS by far the best mod that I’ve done to my e92 M3! It easily pulls 4-5 car lengths through the 1/4 mile on an equivalently modified e92 M3 minus the 3.62 FD diff and Karbonius CF plenum (both M3s are mine so I know how they are modded).
Anyone interested in a private track day at Blackhawk farms in nw Illinois on 4/21?

A buddy and I run a monthly private rental at bfr. 20 cars max, 8 hours of open track, advanced drivers only. It’s awesome. We’re short 2 people to make our minimum this month (beginning of the season and all, people are still getting their sh*t together). If anyone is interested, dm me.

Hm, good to know about the reality of street driving such a setup. Getting a bit higher in the rev range (esp with that sound!) to get out of the low-rpm highway bog sounds amazing as well. Definitely envy the setup as a whole with the 3.62 Drexler.
Are vp racing jugs safe for standard fuel? I see people use them on track all the time, but then when I go to read the specs on Amazon it says “not for highway fuel” but also “for racing fuel”

Would love to stop paying th 100% markup at the track if I can.

Yes, they are. It's like the disclaimer of "for off road use only" on all of the aftermarket parts we get.

I got a 5.5 gallon jug that I take with me when filling up my car so I can add it to my wife's car. Saves me a trip to the gas station.

i figured as much, was just a little concerned about them explicitly defining racing fuel as methanol. but yeah, makes sense.

Totally fine, they have to put that since they dont use the safety flow spout. I carry 5 of them to the track any time I race filled with 93oct
So dumb question for the group and I have not found it in any other chat, but has anyone weighed the headliner? I know the roof weight but haven't found the headliner and was just curious.

A slick top headliner, no pillars included, is exactly 10 pounds.

That’s including electronics? Like dome lights etc?

It’s a thin piece of covered foam.

i found the pics and i recalled incorrectly;
headliner with nothing else on it; 6 lbs
a/b/c pillars; 2.11 lbs
front and rear light consoles; 1.12 lbs
insulation stuck to roof; 1.4 lbs

only thing i don't have a weight for is the sun visors and grab handles... so about 12-13 lbs in full trim.
