I don't think you'd want powder in the groove area where the gasket sits. Mporium made a detailed post about what it takes to ensure a leak free seal:

Who's idea was paint gasket sits area. Looks like they want to sell you new covers later.

Finally some good news, I should have my pistons next week!

Pistons came in, now just waiting on CarBahn. They said they can’t get me in till probably mid May.

I already reached out to them and unfortunately they only do sleeveing, I think CarBahn is the only company in the US that has the ability to bore Alusil.

We absolutely can.

We are also capable of building S65 stroker motors. We have everything needed to build a 4.6 on hand at the moment.

We are one of three shops in the USA who have the capability of properly reconditioning Alusil. It’s us, Carbahn (Dinan’s new outfit after selling his name to private equity), and Dinan (if they’re still doing it).

I’m one step closer to having my E92 back on the road. I picked up my block yesterday from Carbahn.

Wow I wasn’t aware that they would do a bare block. I thought they only did long blocks. I assume they left the mains alone, correct?

Yes, they didn’t touch the mains, they just did boring and honing. It turns out they do a lot of blocks for many different engine builders. They do bare blocks, but the wait time is crazy. I was waiting almost six months to get an appointment.

I’d like to build up a short block some day so time isn’t that big of a concern for me. *knocks on wood*

Best advice is to get the big two out of the way, if you can source a block and have it ready for when ever they can get it done and have your piston ready as well. It took 4 months for Mahle to build my piston.

6 months is really tough waiting time, i'd go with new short engine 11110036844
PS. Someone has more information about Sreten's M539 reconditioned S65 alusil engine with extra care which ated himself by 10.000 km if i understand correctly?

He’s in Germany and I am in the US, his was just a cleaning, mine had to be bored.
