Hello all,

I did alot of reading on here, and I know this subject is heavily covered, but being a first time e90 owner I am hoping for some basic guidance. As mentioned, I have a 2011 sedan m3 comp 6mt, brand new to me. Looking for my very best option of playing music in my car via Iphone, carplay would be nice but not absolutely necessary.

You'll likely find this Section far more rich, vetted and helpful for your question than 'General M3'...

Best bet is a mr12volt CarPlay box. It connects via MOST which is digital and will be the best quality. And you get CarPlay as a bonus.
My M3 is a single hump car (impossible to implement Apple Car Play) and I use this device that sits in the center console. It plugs into the USB and AUX ports. Works great paired to mobile device and no complaints.

I had a Dynavin touchscreen in my old E92 328i (non-idrive and Logic7). The sound quality on the Dynavin unit was better than the OE headunit, and it utilised the MOST fiber optic loop using an adapter.

The newer ones have Android Auto and Car Play.

Like crap, I’m sure. There’s no reason to get one without the MOST connection given there’s one available.

The Aux audio is optional, I personally do not use it. Instead, I use the cars audio wirelessly with a Bluetooth receiver and it’s perfect, never cuts and the quality is OEM.

This ^ Bluetooth receiver is also a solution for people with single hump cars.

That Bluetooth receiver connects to your stereo through a 3.5 mm aux port.

So you added a Bluetooth receiver over aux to avoid using the built in Bluetooth receiver over aux?

I had the wireless Bluetooth receiver before I added CarPlay and the Individual Audio sounds perfect through it. :)

When I added in the RoadTop, I didn’t bother with the aux cable, don’t like how it fits under the armrest and I’d rather keep the car’s audio controls on the OEM MMI instead of the RoadTop.
