Thank you for the insight!

Will do more research and will most likely follow your lead for most of it.

No need for the cooling stuff unless you have evidence that the stock coolers are insufficient.

No need for TAs unless one of yours fails.

Absolutely do not touch the valve covers or the gaskets unless they leak.

I had to replace a valve cover and ponied all the way up for BMW OE, and I'd do it again. I'm sure the NRW ones are fine but I don't like the idea of completely changing the metallurgy of an engine part without a very good reason.

Billet spark plug tubes seem hugely sus to me for similar reasons. If metal ones were better than rubber, it'd be hard to imagine why BMW wouldn't have used them from the factory. I'd be concerned about thermal expansion stressing the valve covers or something. IDK. Seems super unlikely that you could radically change the material used for a part like that on an engine like this and have no downside.

Here's what I recently did before 160k miles. Basically a complete refresh of the rear suspension the whole powertrain downstream of the engine (except the trans itself), and a bunch of other bits and bobs. Super glad I did it. Made a very noticeable difference.

Thats a great write up, thanks for sharing.

I’ve got 180k on mine now and taking it off daily duty next year to do exactly what you’re doing. Glad to hear it was worth it, was stating to have my doubts as I started planning the work.

Im currently at 209k miles on my 2008 E90 MT. What do you recommend as full service / maintanence at this mileage.

For visibility, the following were the most notable things that have been done besides oil changes that are done every 3k miles:

Rod bearings done at 190k (BE with arp bolts)
TA done replaced at 150k (OEM)
New rotors and pads 190k (OEM)
New spark plugs 150k (OEM)
New control arms. 150k (OEM)
New O2sensors. 150k (OEM)
New clutch. 150k (OEM)

My assumption is that I should do the following possibly but wanted to get people's honest insight:

DO88 Cooling Kit
NRW Valve Covers
NRW Valve Cover Gasket Kit
EuroPower TAs?

I'm sure I'm possibly missing alot so any advice provided is much appreciated
Power steering fluid change (that reminds me, must do my own! lol).
Hi all

Just joined the High Milage club and would like to shortly show my E90.

Bought an '08 M3 E90 with manual transmission in Melbourne Red and approx. 175k miles (280k kms). No Accidents. I am based in Switzerland.

History
First Owner (Bought the car when he was approx. 40 years old) got it new and drove it until 2020 and did 142k miles (230k kms). All Maintenance had been done at the official BMW Dealer in Switzerland.

Second owner (approx. 50 Years old) got it in 2022 and reached then 175k miles (280k kms).He did lots of Maintenance Work:
Rod Bearings
Throttle Actuators
Chain tensioner
ignition Coils
VANOS adjuster
fuel pump
fuel Regulator
injection valve
idle adjuster
valve cover gaskets
all flat belts and tension pulleys

- Third owner it is me and I had to change the driveshaft which I knew when i bought the car.

Modification made from Second Owner:
- Recaro Pole Positions Seats
- KW Suspensions V3 Clubsport
- 10mm Spacers front and back
- Friedrich Motorsport Titan Exhaust System
- Android Infotainment System with Apple Carplay
- CANcheck Data Display
- Lots of Alcantara in the interior
- Blackline Taillights

Car runs great so far and it is fun to drive. Especially with the manuel gearbox it is just great.
I tell myself if it did not blow until 175k miles it won't blow anymore.

The High Milage did not bother me because of the reasonable price compared to others in the European Market. Even if i have to replace the engine it will be still a good price.
And i do not plan to sell it and rather Keep it forever. I hope it will be as popular as en M3 E30 in 10-15 years.

Congrats, beautiful e90!!

Why did you change the crank shaft? Hell of a service, ahn?
Beautiful car, and lovely colour, my favourite!

aliu0's user avataraliu0 would also like to know why you changed the crankshaft?
Assimilator1's user avatarAssimilator1 jvictormp's user avatarjvictormp

Sorry guys, i mean the driveshaft not the crankshaft! I mixed those to up in English, post ist updated now.
So that was not hell of a service then :)

Driveshaft made some noise during rolling, applying throttle or shifting gears. After so many miles I think it s reasonable.
2008 e92 m3

235,000 miles, throttle actuator driver side. This is the second time.

It was packed with rodent nest so perhaps it wasn't cooling and cooked itself. 2 hours labor.

Getting up there! Nice work!
its 2025... and our E9x M3s are aging like fine wine!! can't wait till we hit our 25th anniversary to see how many are still driving our babies!! S65 Rumble is priceless compared to today's modern turbos.....it's Not always the power for daily drivers....imo...it's the total package and the experience!!
Sure is! I'm somewhere still around 135k/140k still. It's garaged but doesn't get driven much. The suburban gets the daily drive with family life. Needs a good paint correction one of these days and I need to replace the headliner. I have the OEM materials in the corner but haven't found the time.

Naturally aspirated
RWD
And, most importantly, hydraulic power steering + available in stick

Dying breed. Just about dead, actually. No one's doing that combo in production cars any more except for Gordon Murray Automotive, which is basically irrelevant in terms of numbers and price. Next closest are Lotus and Porsche GT cars – still nowhere near the mainstream.

We're lucky AF to drive these cars.
Keep this thread alive! my car running strong at 144k miles.
I love popping into this thread. Makes my 100k mile 2010 feel like a young'un!

Does anyone know where I can find the alcantara steering wheel trim with the small cutout at the very bottom for the M emblem? I want to match my wheel too but the official genuine one I found seems to not have it

About to hit 40k on my MY10. To my credit, I bought it with 18k miles at the end of 2023 so I'm definitely using it a lot more than the original owner ☺️
I saw your reply yesterday and just today i run over this facebook side:
https://www.facebook.com/kleinopoliravimas

They would have exactly what you are asking for.
Mine is not from there, previous owner did some Alcantara work on mycar. So i do not know if this company is real or a scam.

Can’t find one of these for 2011s so my baddd

E93 DCT 58k miles. Got it recently have been digging on the rod bearing issue and glad I found this thread. Car is pristine, last owner had it 7 years and it’s really well taken care of. Not sure about the other owners but it seems like it was taken care of. Don’t know if I’ll be doing rod bearings yet…
159k miles, still supercharged & original bearings (scared to change them)
starter is sticking, front EDC shock just blew, needs valve cover gaskets but still going. hoping to start getting it cleaned up fully this winter

Glad she's still running well at 159K. If you do nothing else this winter, get the rod bearings done, especially with the car being supercharged, otherwise an S65 rebuild, or replacement engine, could cost you well into $20K to $25K - when labor is included. You're living on borrowed time... Get 'er done.

Nice!

Doing oil analysis?
I don't think I have chimed in here yet.

'08 with 152k miles and will go up. I honestly rarely street drive it at this point. I trailer it to the track, do 4-5 20 minute sessions, and then trailer it home.

Rod bearings were done right before I bought the car with ACL bearings @ ~149,800 miles.

I have replaced the valve covers with factory take-offs from a lower mileage car. I did all the gaskets at the same time along with CarBahn VANOS covers.

So far so good, fingers crossed.

Pending work, it will be on a Tail of the Dragon trip in a few weeks!

SOME OF US MIGHT BE INTERESTED IN MEETING UP WITH YOU FOR A RUN ON THE TAIL OF THE DRAGON. KEEP US POSTED ON YOUR PLANS. IN THE PAST, FORUM MEMBERS HAD AN ANNUAL TotD RUN IN NOVEMBER. IT HAS BEEN A GREAT TIME TO AVOID CROWDS. THE WEATHER IS USUALLY COOL. THE LEAVES ARE MOSTLY DOWN.
