Retired it! With a 190k miles on the dash and a solid 8 years of daily duties it’s time to move on. It’s a hard act to follow but it’s replacement is more than capable.
Btw curious; believe also you where an early adopter of the slon vanos covers. Did you keep them on or replaced again prior selling the M3?

I was and haven’t had any issues. I believe early on I caught one prong not fully engaged and chalked that up me not fully checking my work. I checked any time I topped off the oil over the years and can say at least bank 1 sees fine. I personally was never concerned during the hype.

I still have the M3 and the grand plan was to get it to garage queen status after its daily abuse. I love it too much and always seeing others regrets on selling is keeping it safe for now.
I took it for a trip down to Aliso Viejo and then went further south to see the USS Midway. Got a EDC malfunction warning. Took a look today and both front strut connectors are seated properly. Before I tear the trunk apart to check those does anybody know what I can use to isolate which corner is having issues?

Sloan vanos covers - - early adapter too. So-far so-good with ~ 11K mls since install; circa 2023.

Take regular, 'limited' peeks via only oil refill access hole.
Remain 'hopeful'...no anomalies noticed to-date :confused:
Spent the weekend at Barber Motorsports Park. What a phenomenal facility. Had a blast and the car performed flawlessly, only casualty was a cracked front rotor, stock sized PFC rotors running their 331/332 compound with Falken Azenis RT660+ tires. Only noticed the crack after the last session. A bit disappointing since these pads were brand new and my first outing with them, and I quite enjoyed them. I was previously running their 08 compound with these rotors. With the scarcity of finding replacement rings, I'd been considering an upgrade but wanted to ensure my driving skill warranted it, so this may be a sign.

Had to dig through the archives on my phone, I put mine in 2021 with 155k miles, so 45k miles on mine. Can’t believe I’m saying such a cliche but that sure doesn’t seem like 5 years ago, wtf.

I don’t think this points to a hardware issue.

Barber has some long, fast sections that can cool the rotors down quickly. That kind of rapid cooling after a heavy braking zone can lead to cracking. Tracks with long straights or extended high-speed sections, where you’re off the brakes for a while, tend to do this.

At BMS you’ve got the front straight into a braking zone, then another stretch, then the long run down the back straight with the potential flat-out chicane. So you’re going from hard braking to a long period of airflow over the brakes. Even without ducts, that can cool things off fast.

Pair that with 200TW tires and the added grip, and it’s easy to see how the brakes could be getting very hot under braking, then cooling quickly once you’re back on a straight. That repeated heat and cool cycle could definitely contribute to cracking.

TLDR: I think you just got faster :P
Agreed, this setup has been great since I started tracking the car back in 2018. Been through a set of rings and a few sets of pads. Simple and effective. This is only my 2nd event on 200TW tires, there is so much more traction over a max performance tire! I knew I'd eventually get to this point. I just hate that it happened directly after dropping $$ on new track pads for the stock calipers. I'd hoped to run these rotors and pads a bit longer. I'm a big fan of doing more with less, and showing that the stock brake are quite capable.

Sorry to hear about the cracked rotor. I noticed the rotor crack runs through a vent hole and that same hole is very close to the edge of the rotor which may have exacerbated the crack propagation due to heat stress (thermal expansion) at the rotor edge.
