This stray has been visiting my yard for the past few months. I
started feeding him after losing my cat 5 weeks ago. He’s s bit
feral, so I give him some space. Perhaps over time he’ll decide
to stick around. My previous was also a stray. Just takes time

dreamingat30fps wroteWell I think Giuseppe might be gone. He's been looking extra scraggly and old since we've been back in NC since June. Recently he would barely eat any of his food and now it's been like 2 weeks since we have seen him. We usually see him everyday or at least a couple of time per week.We actually have a development in the ferral cat situation.
So the black cat we call Giuseppe who has been coming around for years has ALWAYS fought any other cats that came anywhere near him. Well maybe he's gotten too old or something, but this new grey cat we call Cracker Barrel started coming by. Unlike Giuseppe he's very friendly and will rub up against you so you will pet him/give him food.
Anyways he has started coming by pretty much every day now, he even hangs out in the patio WITH Giuseppe being there also and Giuseppe doesn't do shit. I don't know where this new cat Cracker Barrel came from, but I don't think he's ferral like Giuseppe, but he also doesn't have a collar or anything.
Maybe the asshole just goes house to house getting free food. I did see a mouse trigger one of my patio cameras the other day and today I found a dead mouse on the lawn so hopefully someone is doing their job.
So it seems we may be catless again... if you can even count a wild cat that comes to eat at your house during the summer as having a cat.

We get cats roaming in our backyard every once in a while since we don't have a dog. Our cat, who is a 100% inside cat hates to see them. She hisses and spits at them. Sometimes they come up to the sliding glass door and our cat will try to attack them, hitting and biting at the door. It really stresses her out. If I see them in our yard I will chase them away because our cat doesn't like it. She's very territorial.

Well, I hope your little friend comes back to visit you again. Even if he’s not your cat you can still get attached. A neighbor had a tuxedo cat named Figaro who used to visit us every so often, was very friendly. He stopped coming and when I saw that neighbor I asked about Figaro, he said he had died. I was sad I would not see my little friend anymore. We did not let our cat know he visited.

My deepest condolences. You were there for him, and you gave him a comfortable way out. But hard to fill those holes in your life.

But, you did absolutely the right thing. Our little can't really tell us when the pain gets too much, so it's up to us to decide when to escort them to the rainbow bridge. When he's in pain with no chance of relief? There's really no decision to be made except the humane and loving one.
It's a sad, sad thing (and there *will* be tears), but worth it in the end for the love that they give us.

You definitely did the right thing, and when the time comes, it's always tough to make that decision. Give your cat that is still with you some extra love and affection, and focus on him/her to help you get through this difficult time.
