My 'new to me' 2009 BMW E63 635d M Sport (UK car)

** Saturday 13th June **

This was a completely unexpected purchase - but came across it when just having a browse at 0214 this morning because my sleep is crap currently due to the meds I m on, and saw how close it was, and had to go and see it

Made contact; went down this afternoon, had a good look over it, took it for a spin with some fast driving and hard on the brakes etc, doing the usual due diligence and couldn t fault it at all.. TBH as soon as I saw the first picture as below, I was sold

It s now home and on the drive; full oil & filter change tomorrow with a flush to begin with and I ll probably give it a lick of Ceratec

It needs a thorough deep clean, inside and out. The tyres need a good scrubbing to rid the fecking horrible tyre shine and the first job really will be new tyres and bin off the horrible Bridgestone RFTs I might look to see if my pal can fit in the wheels for a full refurb, but if not they ll just have to wait for now

Once I ve given it a good clean I ll get some better pics up - for now, this is your lot

** Sunday 14th June **

It's gotten a thorough deep clean, inside and out this morning...

It'll have to do for now; it's a good 6ft'er currently

It needs a good polishing, stone chips sorting and alloys need a full refurb; but all in good time











And later in the afternoon:

Oil flush, drained oil, new filter, fresh 5W30 + Liqui Moly Ceratec added, engine bay cleaned - done for the day, knackered now and hurting





Also ordered fresh tyres for the car; gone with Michelin CrossClimate 3 Sports via Camskill - will see when my pal can fit the car in for the wheels to get refurbed and that s that part done

And in the week just gone I've gotten a few other jobs done:

- De-badged the rear and polished it up to remove the badge shadow
- Runflat tyres removed and brand new Michelin CrossClimate 3 Sport tyres fitted all round (245/40 and 275/35 19s - non RFTs thank goodness)
- Front & rear dash cams fitted
- Nav updated to the 2025 maps; as late as this car can run
- Steering wheel sanded, treated and re-dyed with Furniture Clinic products (it's come up well)
- New OE BMW front & rear BMW roundels fitted and brand new number plates fitted (stuck on and not screwed on)

For now it's actually very compliant; more so I've binned the RFTs and fitted non RFTs - made a huge difference straight away

But in the very near future I'll be doing a full suspension overhaul - all arms, drop-links, inner CV joints/track rod ends and probably rear subframe bush inserts (if someone does them for the E63)

And to top it off, the Bilstein B12 kit - that should have it sitting and riding nicely

Looking good! I am looking to do something similar in the near future. Love having a project to work on that isn't such a huge task off the bat to run and drive.

Busy day today (work and play)

Managed to get the front brakes overhauled (new Textar 2-piece discs and Textar pads) - brake calipers and carriers wire brushed and resprayed with Jelonite silver brake caliper paint and HT lacquer

I've also DIT refurbed the front wheels (air out of tyre; tyre masked off and then any kerbing flatted off, everywhere else scotch-padded, panel wiped down and then 2 light dust coats of Jelonite etch primer and then 3 light coats of Jelonite alloy wheel silver paint and a good lacquer)

They are not perfect, at all; but they're hell of a lot better than they were and at some point later in the year I'll probably get them to my pal for a full strip back and powdercoat refurb etc

I'll hopefully get the rears done tomorrow or Wednesday

Rear brake calipers wire brushed and repainted today - couldn't swap the discs and pads as I'd been sent the wrong ones, so they'll have to wait for another time

And the mobile tyre fitter, who I'm calling Moronicus Maximus, had dugga-dugga gunned the wheels bolts on that much that I literally lifted one corner off the axle stand trying to get them undone with my now bent Draper breaker bar, and had to whip out my 50mm axle (7ft piece of scaffolding pipe) to get them undone... Not impressed

But sorted now and torqued back down properly - the rear alloys were free of any kerb marks, just a bit of paint/lacquer peel, they've come up well (just don't look too closely)







Bar getting some 12/15mm wheel spacers that's it done for now - going to take my time with this one, more so as I've decided to get my own Limited Company moving again as the contract I'd accepted with Meta has now fallen through due to the thousands of redundancies they're making - so need to get some leg work in over the next few weeks to ensure I can start to see some money coming in!

Diesel? What kind of gas mileage do you get?

The great Walter Rohrl always had to have Bilsteins on everything he drove. I bet he got Lancia to put them on his 037 rally car.

Nice find! E63 is such a great looking car, it catches a lot of flack but to me it's aged incredibly well. Good luck with the car.

Yes; 635d, so twin turbo M57

And absolutely no ideas re economy; I work from home so hardly go anywhere haha - economy has never been a worry for me

I've got Bilstein B4S shocks with Eibach pro-kit springs on our F31 and that's a superb set-up, suits the car well

I had their B14 coilovers on a previous E81 130i LE and on my previous E39 540i too - they don't do them for this 6 series unfortunately and I'm not paying nearly £1800 UK Sterling for B16 coilovers!

The Bangle era BMWs got slated when they first got released, more so after the E39 and E38 cars which were lovely to look at (and be in)...

The Bangle cars have absolutely improved with age and they're nice looking now, especially compared to some of the recent fugly BMWs

Gave the 635d a full wash, decontamination and then lathered in snowfoam and every panel clay mitted... Towel dried and then I've gone to town on it with my DA - one panel at a time, 2 passes with Kock Chemie 8.02 hard cut and then 2 passes with Kock Chemie 6.01 cut & finish, using Lake Country blue & orange pads

A full wash and towel dry and then every panel coated with Soft99 Fusso Dark; glass treated, tyres treated

I'm absolutely paggered now; not a good day health wise, but it's a job I wanted to get done as it's due to lash it down here all weekend; and it's one big job less to do!

It's now spugged up the driveway on CTEK trickle

It's hot here in the UK currently; hit 33ºC here in Lancashire yesterday which is not the norm for us at all.

I left it till later on yesterday evening to give the E63 a good wash & detail; even though it's been parked up the drive all week due to me not being very well, and plugged into my CTEK, it still manages to get filthy due to the heat, the wind and the fact that we live next to a large woodland

It's got a full snowfoam, wash, towel dried and then slathered in PoorBoys Black Hole; it has no longevity as that's not what it's meant for, but it does make darker cars look minty-fresh

Cheers Mani - the wheels (and the amount of paperwork) were what drew me to the car and as soon as I saw it I knew I'd be buying it

They look much better now after my DIY refurb; but they'll get done properly later on in the year

Thanks re health; unfortunately it's a long, protracted, uphill battle. It is what it is...

The temp actually dropped back to 26ºC here this afternoon, much more manageble!

There was a lovely deep red E63 M6 on M3Cutters forums here in the uk not so long ago; a lot of car for £15k and it had all the big jobs done too, but a lot more than I wanted to spend, more so for a car that may do 3k miles a year if lucky

And TBH; the M57 is heck of an engine and pulls like a train; just doesn't have that V10 song to it

Definitely not taking anything away from the 635d! Definitely the better choice for daily duties
