Operation Crossroads...July 1, 1946...80 years ago the first nuclear test (Able) was conducted near the Bikini Atoll. First the inhabitants were evacuated (167). Then a bunch of ships (no longer deemed needed) were brought in and positioned. Finally a B29 was used to drop the bomb.
A decade later (1957-1958):

Sometime in 1957-1958, when we lived in China Lake CA, my father was going to observe an atmospheric detonation at the Nevada Test Site from the air in a Navy plane. He tipped off my mother, who got us out of bed in the early morning before dawn. (In front of our on base house was just desert with mountains in the distance.) We were too far from the detonation to hear anything, but when it went off some 150 miles or so away from us, the sky went instantly bright. Some time later, a moderate breeze (the pressure wave) went by. A few years later, the U.S. stopped atmospheric testing.
Likely 'Operation Plumbbob' (Nevada Test Site - May 28, 1957 to October 7, 1957):

Buug959's user avatarBuug959 Sorry I missed you. :) Actually this was taken last September when I was visiting my friend on her birthday. It was a quick overnighter. I love Station six. Expensive but good.

I still haven't managed to stop in for a drink there. I'll have to make a more conscious effort in the future.

Shipwrecks in the lagoon include:
USS Saratoga (CV-3) —aircraft carrier
USS Arkansas (BB-33) —battleship
USS Gilliam (APA-57) —attack transport
USS Carlisle (APA-69) —attack transport
USS Lamson (DD-367) —destroyer
USS Anderson (DD-411) —destroyer
USS Apogon (SS-308) —submarine
USS Pilotfish (SS-386) —submarine
Japanese battleship Nagato —battleship
Japanese cruiser Sakawa —light cruiser
German cruiser Prinz Eugen —heavy cruiser
Turns out because my ship was involved in the nuclear cleanup of Enewetok Atoll in the late 70's, I' a nuclear vet! Totally explains why I'm my own nightlight!

That is probably a legitimate picture. The Blue Angels were reprimanded and later cleared for doing an impromptu air show over the beach a few weeks ago, flying well below their safe minimums.....
Clearly AI.

The kid in the background on beach, blue shirt guy hands, guy in beach chair has his left hand glitching out, and the US flags are showing only about 20 stars.

I think you're right. It is an AI enhancement of an actual event, with things like the flag pole added and smoke trail extended and enhanced. The picture is too perfectly framed and sun in just the right position for this photo to be real.

Here's one TV news station's coverage of the incident in question:

.
Well I got to see a big steam locomotive.
Not interested in chasing one down again. What a bunch of fanatical nerds driving like idiots.

Was pretty certain this one wasn't "AI enhanced"..until the little girl's reaction to seeing it.
