Another 4 cases added of injector failures taking out engines!

And created a new list where injectors failed but apparently didn't damage their engine, 4 lucky boys there! (although I do wonder what their compressions would be like!).

Now that I'm word searching within FB groups, I'm unearthing a lot of old cases!

New probable rod bearing case from the US. Case added

Oleg's Maslakov - (Lukeyboi89 post 5/11/25), he later posted "car starts and drives. Just makes noise above like 2k RPM, also has bunch of metal shavings in the oil filter. No leaks anywhere." (this reply and others seems to be only randomly visible!).
Suspected rod bearings may have spun. I've just asked him if he's had his old engine stripped to see if we can get a solid answer.... he's just replied, not been stripped yet, but plans to (21-2 now selling old engine).
119k miles on car, "reconditioned motor from 2017 with roughly 75k miles on it and bearings done", previously supercharged, USA, NY

Jackson Rapaich - 5/2020, bore washed by failed injector. Andrew Ishee (FB M3V8 goup), had main bearing failure at 170k, was supercharged for 'probably 50k' miles. Added to list.

Only just got around to seeing all of this video.
Detonation damaged confirmed (skip to 14:22 to see that, the link below won't use the time stamp!), although worse on the right bank, the left bank (shown later) also has detonation damage. Thought to be a combination of a failing fuel pump along with a remap which had removed some safety functions.
I guess detonation melted one of the pistons causing it to break up?

* Please note that the chassis is a 2008 but the engine build date is unkown. The engine had 14k miles on a rebuild with new rod bearings.

Sure potential previous owner abuse, but still, this level of destruction with just 40k miles is shocking. Timestamp 17:18 for rod bearing.

And yea, once a rod or main bearing failure happens it trashes nearly everything, metal particles go everywhere.

Info -- bought the car in 2025 with failed engine, 2011 M3, 39.4k miles, USA AZ, failed in late 2018 (stored for 7 years).
Cyls 4 & 8 rod bearings failed, possible oil starvation. Has later tin/alu/copper bearings (as expected for year).

Update: confirmed spun #1 bearing and took out 1&5 rod bearings. Block is cracked. Dead at 47k miles.
