If you don't have the star under the m button and instead of the picture of the radio / cd, will the steering wheel still work (I assume you program the button through iDrive, but if the car didn't have it originally, will it be added later?)

The buttons on the steering wheel have nothing to do with the functionality or the wiring of the PSW.
dettlinger wroteGlad it worked out for you !I installed mine last night and could not have done it without this DIY. My only hitch was trying to figure where the holes were in the back of the wheel to slide the screwdriver in and release the airbag. Took me about 15 minutes to realize I had to puncture the vinyl in the low spots to get to the tabs.
Other than that everything went smoothly. This wheel, as a Brit might say, is "one trick bit of kit!"
Now we'll have to start a thread (if there isn't one already) to see who can pull the most Gs!

Buy A/T version. Based on a lot of DCT owners here, it works fine.
(I have 2 local M3 DCT owners who have them and yes- no problem installing DCT pedals on A/T version).
He is correct ... AT wheel = DCT wheel

According to the BMW Performance site the steptronic wheel and the DCT wheel are not the same.

I just installed mine and it does not power on and the error code of pass retraint system failure, came up. I did everything by your diy and by the book but

Ordered a new coil spring cartridge to see if this is the problem. I hope to god that the wheel itself isn't faulty. if so, I just lost out on $900.

new here, and i just bought this wheel and installed it following the directions provided here. Problem is, it lights up and the timer works but im not getting the lights to work or the g force meter and a few other things. the wiring pictures shown above are different colors than what was in my car. My e92 is a 2010 6 spd 328i and i was wondering if anyone knows if there was a wiring diagram change in my model. any input would be greatly appreciated.

FYI for anyone doing this, Install was strait forward if you follow the DIY the OP made. My install went very smooth and I had no issues with wiring or with the steering angle sensor, but I still got two warning/CEL lights. These were the brake light came on and DSC light was on. The ECU turned off the traction and stability control because of the steering wheel. Took it to the dealer and they had to recalibrate the steering wheel angle sensor. The computer/dealer stated that it was caused by excessive skidding (i did not mention anything about the steering wheel) I am a pretty good mechanic and the install was very basic, but the computer still had problems with this install. after doing some research it looks like 1 out of 3 have some issue with the computer and CEL's after install, so don't let it freak you out if it happens. I took it to the dealer and they fixed it under warranty, just don't tell them that it happened after the steering wheel was installed or they will charge you for the recalibration.

It was weird and I was quite surprised that I had the codes. I was very careful not to disturb the angle sensor while I did the install and everything went very smoothly. Thats why I posted my findings to let those know that even if you do everything correctly there is still a chance the car wont be happy. Also just for info, my e90 is a 6mt, no idrive and the fault codes did not appear till after 30 min of driving the car the next day.
I have a 2010 e90 m3 LCI model , it is gonna work properly if I get the BMW performance steering wheel on my car ? Coz the BMW dealer said: it does not work after 2010 model. please let me know! Thank a lot...

I was wondering, when you take all the wired out of the black plug that went in the original CPC, what did you do with the empty plug. I've had a look at the new CPC and there is two connectors, one is obviously for the white one with the old wires in, the other looks like it would accept the old plug.
Is this something to do with the fact that the new CPC is that same as the one for an X5 with heated steering wheel?
Do you know if everything is back to front with a RHD car - as in the blue connector at the beginning of your post, is that on the opposite side of the car?
