I am tired of Supercharged M3 with lovely gloss engine covers.

Can the original plastic m3 engine cover be painted?

Some people told me that extreme heat would affect paint over plastic...

OMG thats beautiful. It looks so smooth!

Couple of questions:

Did they sand it beforehands?

Does it have clearcoat on top?

How durable is it? Can we still bend the engine cover?
Sorry..you can actually click on the picture to the original post. The owner of the car/people who did work can probably answer your question better. IND has done many similar jobs as you seen above. Your best bet is to pm him(Nate@IND)..or wait till they chimes in here.

My painters spend about 10 hours sanding and preping the OEM manifold to remove the texture before painting. The clear coat that we use will hold up to the heat.

Here are some more photos-

Yeah, IND does some great work and Nate is a pleasure to deal with.

I'm getting my cover painted soon after I return from a much needed European holiday.

@ Nate - I'll have the original set of painted reflectors out back via FedEx to you tomorrow!

Thanks :D we do offer a core program so the cost is only for the paint labor.

1) Yes
2) Yes
3) If you prep correctly it'll last as long as you own the car.

My last Passat wasn't as fancy as the pic above but it what your'e looking at it basic automotive paint. Nothing high-temp, and no special prep. Just sand, primer, paint, clear and it lasted at the 4 years I had the car with no issues.

No problems with heat when prepared properly before the paint goes on.
