We tend to need them once a year or so, and have never had a long wait. The 100 mile upgrade is well worth it if you travel IMO.

A local driver ripped us off once when they said they couldn't use AAA because it was accident related and charged us $500.

100 mile only? I get at least one 200 mile tow, I think it's only one of those every three years. I was three miles from home, a bit shocked to learn that I'd have to wait two hours. I wouldn't have sent my kid back out on the road like that, but with MHD showing me real time actual coolant temperature (not the idiot yellow/red lights) I figured it was worth a try, lots of safe places to pull over if needed.

A nice benefit of the occasional work from home days is that I get to do some lunch time maintenance. Today I replaced my drivers side door lock actuator on my 330 with one from a 2014 5er that I got at the junk yard. Manufactured by Kiekert and not Brose like the one from 2006. The precision feel of the door opening and closing and locking is now back after a week with the Amazon junk. This newer OEM actuator also has a different sound/feel from the automatic lock mechanism, I may upgrade the rest of the actuators in my car. It's a much more premium feeling and sound, not as harsh.

I also replaced my visors with ones I got from an LCI E90 (vinyl). They're in much nicer shape than the awful fabric and degraded foam. Not bad for $25.

When I removed the old one, the airbag warning was a gooey mess that melted onto my hand. I really wish I could get rid of this nonsense. Euro visors would be nice, but for $25 I can tolerate these ugly useless warning labels for now.

Yeah, just 100.

The LCI visors open up to a higher angle as well, so they're not sitting in the middle of your field of vision... great all around upgrade!

Noted on the actuators... didn't know they were available in other cars. Will keep an eye out for newer cars coming in (most are always 2007 or 2008).

Just cross reference the part numbers on RealOEM. I heard rumors that the door lock actuators are common across many BMW models for many generations.

I looked for the newest BMWs in the junk yard, then checked part numbers on RealOEM to confirm that the actuators from that F10 5 series fit.

I need to swap these visors as well. The glue is failing and the cloth is sagging. I’m assuming the vinyl ones prolly won’t have this issue. Thanks for the post - good reminder.

Never occurred to me to check, but now it's on the radar! I pulled some a few years ago for the 330i, but they were from a similar vintage E90. I got those and some wing mirrors that have been holding up great so far!

Getting around to working through the maintenance on the car.

Had a friend come over and help with the brakes on Sunday. Definitely the least necessary brake job I've done to date but it stopped the vibration under braking and now I have the peace of mind of having EBC RedStuff. Will take it to the shop some time in the next two weeks to do the stainless lines and RBF660 fluid.

I'll try that, I saw that this can be done with INPA. What idle speed are you running?
As a side note, has anybody ever swapped the guts from the xi 6hp to an rwd?

Didn't know this about the LCI visors. Thats pretty cool. I'll have to compare my two cars. One of them has ones from a 2009 I think. Can't remember if I ever made the swap tbh. Theres a spare set around here somewhere.

From what I can tell the door lock actuators have been the same design from 2006 all the way to current gen. I got actuators off an F80 M3 that work great. They only have 3 pins instead of the stock 5 but that hasn't been an issue at all.

On things I did today:

The 328 passenger under seat woofer seems to be going out. Either that or the amp is. Not sure. TBD. Either way, they're getting upgraded. It was the final push to complete my Bowers & Wilkins retrofit on the 330. The 328 can have the stock Logic 7s.

Honestly the retrofit was disappointing and not worth the money. Maybe if they were powered by a separate amp. I think the enclosure for them just limits them too much. Unless I can find a way to retrofit the B&W enclosure which I highly doubt.

Either way, the setup is complete

You learned something today, I learned something today... there is balance in the universe!

'09s will be the vinyl LCI ones with the better range of motion. I think, but am guessing here, all original ones were fabric and fall apart/have limited range, and all LCIs are vinyl and open the additional 20^ or so.

I'm definitely on the hunt for newer actuators to put in the parts bin! Just ran the part through realOEM and sheesh, basically every E and F car has the same part... did not know!

Balanced, as all things should be

I guess I don't have it then, the ones I pulled from the 09 were still fabric. Got them for free, the stickers were in better condition than mine. Figured why not. Oh well, they haven't bothered me too much.

And yep! BMW keeps a lot of their designs the same. All the speakers in my 330 are out of 2015-2019 BMW F/G series. Big boats. Every one of them nearly plug and play.

The dates/style are just my freestyling there... not the definitive answer by any means! '09 was a transition year, so they have some random stuff as they used up inventory. My E91 has the newer vinyl sunvisors, but the older style seat backs with nets. And on seats that have the active headrest!

For me getting the key lock mechanism out was a bit of a struggle since I had to jiggle it and remove the screw totally.
I got to do this job again since the Amazon actuator I installed was junk. For the front windows you absolutely do need to remove the regulator, well the rearward portion at least, which still requires removal of the window glass. It's easy. Takes a few minutes and gives so much space.

I initially left the window up and removed the nuts that hold the rearward window regulator assembly, but couldn't find an easy path to get the door lock actuator out without using excessive force.

I ended up adding some more buytl sealant to the vapor barrier too while I was in there. A few spots were missing or not sticking.

It attaches to the front section with two metal clips. Has the glass ever been off the car?

Mercifully it’s not too bad to pull the glass out (or so I’ve heard). I’m recovering the headliner this weekend as it happens…

Discovered some wetness on the drivers side footwell. The windshield has been replaced before on the E91 and I wonder if the seal isn’t correctly installed. So I’ll be looking at that tomorrow.

Not that I know of, I bought the car this way and previous owner didn’t mess with it. It free slides fine, but soon as I open the moon roof, it doesn’t slide back forward.

I’m pulling my headliner soon to re cover it, and figured I’d fix it as well. Just needed to know if parts are needed or if it’s a simple fix.

Has anyone purchased from Ikon? I ordered a carbon fiber trunk lip from their website on June 25, it took two days to post a FedEx tracking number then nothing so far. Their website chat is like molasses, it takes hours to get a response if you get a response. I’m curious about others experience. TIA

Yes, as a matter of fact just a few weeks ago. Ordered June 15th, shipped the 16th, and delivered the 20th. I forget the carrier. That's the third spoiler I've ordered from them. One via Amazon, the other two directly. Sorry you're having not so good experience with them, I always recommend them based on my experience (parts and paint quality have always been top notch as well as shipping for me). I had to reach out with a paint code question at one time, and a human emailed back, but I don't recall the timeframe for the turnaround on it.
Hope it works out on your end, I'd be bummed to hear they have gone downhill over the years.

I don't know how to adjust the engagement point, it will be changing as the clutch wears out.
So it drives fine, but NVH is definitely not stock now. Feels somewhat out of place on the "entry-level luxury sport sedan". Maybe it'll become less noisy over time as it breaks in more, but I'd probably install an OE DMF if I were to do it again.

Hey fastboatster and Runnin'Rich ,

Check out this post where someone who did the Valeo 835115 conversion spun up a custom piston rod for his slave to get back to the stock clutch engagement point:

https://www.e90post.com/forums/showp...2&postcount=12

I agree on bumping up the idle to quiet things down somewhat, but do not expect the chatter / rattle to be eliminated entirely.

Also, if anyone is looking to buy the Valeo 828533 service kit (pressure plate, sprung clutch disc, and the two different styles of release bearings), I have a new one available that I'd sell for a good deal. (For sure, less than the current ama zon $375 shipped price!)
