As I mentioned before, a few days ago I got an oil change and new spark plugs. My car had 220E and 30,000miles. After the service, the car felt noticeably stronger. I think these cars are very sensitive to worn spark plugs.

I received the 231E software from Evolve Automotive. The car was flashed early this morning and so far with about 30 very hard miles. I ran all through 1st, 2nd, and 3rd repeatedly back to back. The car doesn't really feel any different than before.

These results were expected considering that I already had a fairly newer BMW software. I will be putting more miles on the car, so we'll see if I feel anything different.

I still have my Evolve Stage 1 Tune that's waiting to be flashed. I forgot to ask Evolve if I have to get an updated version of their tune as well for the 231E or if it's safe to just flash it. Looking back in hindsight, I felt a substantial difference with the Evolve tune, unlike the 231E update. :)

I had some work done at my local independent shop and asked to be updated. They use ISTA and gave me the final report. Took 3:39:43 to complete the update.

Not surprising, my plant intergration level was the same as the one as of dropping off this morning; E89X-07-12-515. I am not sure what version this relates to though. I left with E89X-12-03-502.

As for changes in feel, nothing really. I had them change the plugs and had an oil change. I'll need to get some miles under the belt though as this is not a real judgement as a storm was approaching and of course, it was hot out. I did have the AA under drive pulley installed as well.

What I am curious about is the starting version and ending version as they relate to the integration levels. After a few miles I can speak more about any potential changes.
I talked to my local stealership this morning and they said that they will do the update but some problems may arise from the update and that would be my responsibllity. My question for all the guys that have had the update done is did you guys experience any problems by getting the update?

No one that I am aware of has posted any problems in this thread but there is a remote possibility of issues from what I understand.

Like if a module goes haywire and does not correctly program they are about a grand each to replace.

Not sure about how it translates to the say 231E but the numbers are the date of software. You had December 2007 software and you got updated to March 2012. I do know the update you received is actually 245E, it is the latest available.

Can you check this software version via iDrive?

Unfortunately, no. It was on the print out the shop gave me.

I got told the same thing when I requested the update. No problems here though. If the dealership knows what they are doing, there should be no problems.

I was told some modules have a tendency to overheat and will burn up...and yes they cost about a G to replace.
anyone know when was the 213e software released?

I had my car in for a checkup yesterday as it's getting close to the end of Warranty. Global BMW in Atlanta is putting 231E on for me. I'll report any SOTP differences later.
New plugs + 231E = :bulge: :party0030::happyanim:

Just had this done at the dealer before the warranty went out. Much better than what I expected. Even my girlfriend said she could feel the difference from the passenger seat. The engine note also sounds better, deeper and more aggresive. Traction control now kicks in with just moderate throttle inputs. Smoother in the low range and much more punch in the mid range.

Very happy .
I finally got the version from my dealer that was put down last month:

E89X-12-03-502 (2.46)
My car was just updated on Friday, I was supposed to be updated to integration level E89X-11-03-511

I checked my SW version in the hidden menus and got:
B3.41.E0

Can anyone translate that for me, is that the right place to check?
23 page is a lot to go through. I've read bits and pieces here and there but what are the major benefits of doing this update? I'll have to fork over the $100 but if its worth it, then I won't complain.

You should consider yourself lucky. I can't pay my dealer to do the update. SA refused the update unless something needs fixing.
I was at the dealership today and I had the SA print out my DME software version:

Production software integration:

E89X-09-06-510

Dealer software integration:

E89X-11-09-503

Is 231E or 220E installed on my 2009 M3 DCT?

If it is 220E, how much of a difference is there between 231E and 220E?

I don't recall the integration level of 220E, but I did update from 220E to 231E. I did not feel a single difference...

Biggest gains will be seen on early builds (>180E), or M3s that have never been updated.

Gains from updating from 220E=>231E will be very minimal if any - about ~5-6hp.
I think Flip is right. Your integration level suggests your software is from September of 2011 which very well could be 220E. The difference between 220E and the latest version (243E?) shouldn't be very noticeable.
