Today I finished the install of the Auto-Blip device. In brief, this device takes the input from the brake and clutch and sends an output to the drive by wire throttle. It basically performs part of a heal-toe downshift for you leaving you with just the brake and clutch to worry about. At this point I would kindly ask that this thread stay on track as a discussion about the product and install and not a long line of people telling me I need to learn how to drive a manual car or that I should have bought a DCT. I assure you I am 100% not interested in anyone’s thoughts on that. I only say this because this same thread on every other forum I have read turns into a self proclamation of everyone’s racing skills. Now back to the issue…

This is a video of what it does on a C6 Z06.


The way it operates is to monitor the brake and clutch sensors. When the brake is depressed and THEN the clutch pedal, the unit sends a user adjustable signal to the drive by wire which revs the engine. It does not rev match per se like the 370Z, C7, or Porsches because obviously there is no sensor at the shift gates to determine which gear you are selecting. It does get close enough to make a downshift smooth and honestly when I rev match I’m just guessing too. Now on to the install…



First you must take off the panel under the dash to access the pedals. Pelican Parts already has a great write up on this so I didn’t take pictures. Follow up through step 5.

The unit requires six connections. They are 12V, ground, clutch, brake, and two throttles. I will start with the clutch. Once the bottom panel is off you are going to reach up to the top of the clutch and pop off the sensor that has the harness plugged in. You can tap into this harness for 12V, ground, and clutch depress signal. I simply made a short, approximately six inch, wire with a female end for each of the six connections. Be sure to label the wires if you are using the same color for everything like I did. The clutch connections are:

12V power – Purple with Yellow stripe
Ground – Brown with Black stripe
Clutch depress- Blue with Black stripe

You will NOT use the Blue with Brown stripe.

Next is the brake pedal sensor. It is located above the pedal and behind a metal bracket. You only need to tap into one wire.

For the throttle connection you need to remove the gas pedal. Use a small flat tool and pop off the small cover at the base of the pedal. Once off, remove the torx screw holding the pedal on. Push up on the pedal and it will slide off. Now undo the harness and locate pins 4 & 6. They will be the only two white wires. Tap into both of those with your pre-made sections of wire. The order of these does not matter for the final connection to the unit so you do not need to label them. Plug the sensor back in and re-install the pedal making sure that your wires remain accessible.

All that is left is to connect each wire to the corresponding wires listed in the instructions for the Auto-Blip and run the quick calibration of the unit. If you did something wrong or it is not sensing a specific signal it will tell you.
I was only able to drive it for a few minutes to make sure it worked. I will update or reply to this thread tomorrow when I am able to drive it some more and get pictures of where I mount the unit. All I can say at this point is that it does what it says and it works.

It doesn't. I believe it is meant for you to downshift one gear at a time. From what I have read I think it blips a percentage over your current RPM. For example, if you are in 4th it is designed to compensate for a shift to third because the RPM change won't be as drastic as it would going from fifth to second. The percentage of blip is user adjustable so you can make it really aggressive to handle a multiple gear change but then it would over rev on a more common single gear change. I definitely need to experiment with it more and I will try to explain better when I do.
Man you should learn to heel toe or maybe buy a dct. Lol jk that's pretty cool tho. Honestly this is great for guys like myself who are a lil too tall to be able to physically heel toe.

I don't think you can be too tall to physically heel toe on an E9x M3. The pedals are so close together that if you can press one, you can press both. You don't even have to physically use you're heel and toe on the M3. The left and right side of your foot work perfectly fine.
I'm assuming the auto-blip can be completely disabled by switching it off? Nice option to have.
Very interested to see how it turns out for you! It's one option I wish the E92 had.
Very interested to hear more about it. I hoped e9x M3 came with Auto-Rev as it did with M4

Yes. The unit has a power button. It comes on with the ignition but if you wanted to you could wire a switch inline with the power connection and then it would only come on when you wanted it to.

Yes using the right and left side of your foot works but after a while of bending your knee sideways around the steering wheel would be tough

Did you mean this only blips every time you hit the brake and then clutch, unlike 370z, it blips when you brake, cltuch, and shift?

I think he meant that there's no computer to match the revs if you downshift more than 1 gear, where in like the 370z it'll blip the throttle even if you skip a gear downshifting like 6 to 4.

I think it's neat that the m4 has it but don't get why they would not have a turn off button in normal and sport mode. That kind of kills it for me cause I don't like the extra sensitive throttle in power mode.,

I only mean that it does not rev match. The 370z will put the RPM exactly in the right spot like the DCT does. The user adjustable allows you to set how much it blips and the delay from hitting the clutch until the blip occurs. That is adjustable from instant to half second delay in case someone is slow at shifting.
I have two videos uploading now but in the meantime I'll show where I'm mounting it and make a clarification. I am certain now that the blips are done based on a percentage of the engine RPM at the time the blip is called for. The reason I say this, and you can spot it in the videos, is when I am at a stop with the brake down and push in the clutch it revs up but only to about 1500 RPM.

If you are going to use it on the street you may have to adapt your driving style slightly. When I am coasting to a stop I usually brake and then push in the clutch before the RPM fall too much. Doing this will obviously make the engine rev and make you look silly. If you drive like that you simply have to push in the clutch and then brake instead.

A few hours but I didn't know which wires to use. If I did it again knowing all the wires I'd say an hour or so.
