1sikbmr wroteIs there a video of this anywhere? I did the exhaust mod and I love it, planning on doing straight pipes back. But interested in hearing this first.I did all four of my perforated pipes... I didn't replace with pipes but still covered all of them... I did end up gutting my cats also... I cut it from the top. and just painted it back silver. It does not drone like the way you are describing it... It also sounds very good...

I was also thinking about straight pipes... There is a guy on youtube with straight pipes and it sounds godly... I really cant make up my mind... Ive never been so lost in my life lol
To the op you said you want it really loud... This is loud but if your anything like me it will quickly become not loud enough... But it definitely does sound amazing...
Lol i dont enjoy ricers. But when a nice car is loud..i love it lol.
_Jono_ wroteNothing wrong with a loud v8, a high revving one at that... its the 4cyl that kills me... LolLol i dont enjoy ricers. But when a nice car is loud..i love it lol.
not sure why you are not having a drone but the original member who did the mod tried it that way and it was loud and was giving him drone on certain RPM. some people wont notice or even know what a drone is.. not saying you dont but sometimes whats loud for me is quite for others. drone for me is no drone for others.
i had listen some guys modded exhaust and gutted the 2nd cat and SHIT WAS LOUD (in a nice way)
i havent heard a modded exhaust with all the pipes were covered but i heard it sounds all v8 like a FORD TRUCK...
well we all have different ears. but glad that your happy with your exhaust.
I just bought my Slip on AKRA and sure do missed my OEM modded EXHAUST.

Sean05 wroteHey not saying it doesnt drone at all but the drone rpm range didnt change... It still has the 2500-3000 drone that it comes with from factory... Cruising around town and on the highway for me is no problem... Unless you really get on the throttle... I have all four covered and gutted secondary cats... I posted the link above to my vid... I dont think it sounds like a ford truck... Its high pitched(sort of). Let me know what you think... I am hoping to get a Different exhaust at some point but i am unsure of what i want to get and dont want to rush into anything and regret it...not sure why you are not having a drone but the original member who did the mod tried it that way and it was loud and was giving him drone on certain RPM. some people wont notice or even know what a drone is.. not saying you dont but sometimes whats loud for me is quite for others. drone for me is no drone for others.

Definitely going with stright pipes header back, maybe add 2 resonators to reduce rasp before muffler.
Otacon132 wroteI want to hear that... post vids when donethanks for that video, helped me make my mind up.

Lol i wanna hear that too
If I can find a muffler shop that can do that today I'm doing it. If not then Monday morning
I have a stock exhaust in my garage and I can cut and weld with the best of them. Ill fab up someone a custom OE exhaust for $200! I just need to make room in the garage!
Otacon132 wroteGoto Miami Muffler! thats where im going lol!If I can find a muffler shop that can do that today I'm doing it. If not then Monday morning
thats where i did my stock muffler mod, but their not open today i dont believe to do my mid pipe. i called.
Oh. What kinda mods you got on our m3?
So i finally got around to messing with my stock exhaust a little more. I wanted to go straight pipes back - and basically, thats what i did. I had the shop cut the secondary cats and resonators off and replace it with straight pipes from cat back to an X then to stock muffler. (note that my exhaust is modified, refer back to this thread for pics of that work: http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=320052).
Let me start by saying this is all experimental, and strictly just for sound and not looking for power atm. With that said, this is LOUD as ******* i cant describe it any other way, and very very very loud - but high pitched loud - exotic somewhat. I think i read somewhere around here compare it to a carrera gt, and thats not very far off at all in terms of how loud it sounds, only raspy.
Too raspy for my taste - i believe a resonator will fix this, and make me perfectly happy with this setup for now. Im used to loud cars - my last car had straight pipes header back to an HKS muffler, loud. But it was a controlled loud, and the muffler made it sound right.
I am absolutely scared to redline the car on any street there may be people driving near....actually, screw redline - anything over 4-5k rpm is just stupid loud for street driving. Im definitely getting resonators put in there tomorrow if i get the chance, if anything it will maybe quite it down a little, but mainly i want to kill some of the rasp. In the end of the day i see myself having miami muffler do a full stainless back to mufflers, and probably pick up a used muffler sometime. But thats long term.
I have yet to hear the car drive off, im going to have my friend drive it so i can get some videos tomorrow. For now i have these that i was able to get for now at least. In terms of peoples impressions, my friends are loving it - they say its loud, but they like it. I even had someone already ask me: "What do you have done to that thing? its loud as hell". And that was pulling into a parking lot.
Pics of my frankenstein mid-pipe:

Videos, make sure to watch in high quality for the sound. They are rather accurate - excuse the iphone camera:
Any criticism +/- appreciated

that sound bad ass... any vids from outside the car??
1sikbmr wroteTomorrowthat sound bad ass... any vids from outside the car??
Like i mentioned before replacing the 4 pipes alone its hella LOUD now taking the 2nd cat and resonator OMG i could only imagine...
I'm thinking of doing the exact same thing instead of ordering a Sosi. I have an arqray axle back. How is the drone during highway cruising? That's my only concern. I don't have any drone right now with just the arqray.
