Option 6NR requirements - what a mess

The web site is a marketing tool. It is usually not reliable as an order processing system. For some cars, 6NF was listed as late as early this week and the 6NR info is still less than stellar.

This 6NR transition has been handled less than ideally, however a good CA can usually walk you through the option change land mines.

Not sure why everyone seems to elevate sales people to some higher status. They do order processing and negotiate pricing, not engineering some car delivery system. Relying on sales people who are running around trying to get sales and do paperwork aren't concerned about it.

My CA didn't even know about it. He asked the Sales Manager and they said it could not be ordered until after March. Once more info came out, car went into 150 and they couldn't add it.

Bottom line, if you order NAV, Bluetooth, and iPhone/USB they should have given you BMW Apps. Why have a iPhone option that is just a powered USB. That option should give you everything to integrate the iPhone or BMW should remove the name from 6FL. Yeah feeling kinda pissy about ordering a 50k car that is missing new features by a few days.

Smartphone Integration (6NF) is now "BMW Apps" (6NR) and 6NF goes away as a separate option. Basically that $150 hardware with a $100 addition the apps functionality. The BMWUSA web site is not updated and still in transition with the new option coming online next week. You need to find a good salesperson who understands BMW's order and delivery system. Keep looking, they may be rare but are out there and some are even on here.

Kevin - sorry you got caught in the option change fiasco - your dealer dropped the ball.

Pretty sure by the time you car is delivered and you are paying for it, it will be off the order. My latest VIR still had 6NF showing as I entered production, but I am confident it will be deleted by delivery just leaving the $250 6NR option showing.

Here's my order sheet for a 2012 X5 xDrive 35i. Week 14 production (which is the first week for MY2012 and for 6NR). Apparently, they've made some package changes relative to MY2011: Rear-view camera with Top-View and and Navigation (incl OIS, voice command & RTTI) have been moved from Technology Pkg (ZTP) to Convenience Pkg (ZCV), which also gains Comfort Access keyless entry (was a $1,000 option!), for a price bump from $2,750 to $3,500. The new Tech Pkg consists only of Auto hi-beams, side-view camera and Heads-Up Display for $1,700. Of these, only the side-view camera can no longer be ordered as a stand-alone option. List of standard features in Premium has increased, with addition of [from ZCV:] power tailgate, auto-dimming rear and side mirrors, lumbar support; Park Distance Control (from ZTP), heated front seats (from ZCW), HD Radio, and cargo cover. And of course, the all-important 6NR is a stand-alone option for $250 that automatically adds 6NF for free. I was told that that snap-in adapter will be around $175 and allows the ConnectedDrive screen to look and function like an iPod/iPhone and enables video playback via iPhone, but only when vehicle is stationary. All in all, my new price tage is $80 more than if I had ordered the vehicle a month ago, which would make it appear that BMW has actually lowered its prices (!!). I say this b/c the new config adds $1650 worth of features and only omits $300 (side-view camera). I guess that more than pays for the snap-in adapter:happyanim:

I've tried searching and haven't found if anyone has been able to use an iPod Touch with any of the smartphone features. I guess it's not that interesting since it's just a glorified music player, but if it could output video as well that might be interesting when you're stuck waiting somewhere and have some time to kill.

BMW Canada "BMW Apps Package (ZOX)" - 6NR official bulletin

6NF now shows as a N/C item. This effectively means that 6NR cost $100 more and not $250 since it includes 6NF ($150). My build is currently at status 150 week 11.

BMW Apps (6NR) shows on the BMWUSA website now as well.

curious- are you forced to use an iphone, only, for smartphone integration? it sounds like regardless of the upgrade, combox, connecteddrive, etc; a smartphone upgrade is required?

i have a cic, with premium package and tech package, but no 6fl connection.

What was said was that BMW would not be retroftting, as they have not done in similar previous upgrades (Combox). That is still correct.

It was also discussed in many threads that the retrofit community would be all over this at some point. That is also correct.

but how my 2011 M3 which i got delievery christmas (3 months ago) would be considered retrofitting? dont you think a software upgrade on my idrive would do it? And by the way that is exactly inside of my car!!!

One thing I'd like to point out: Getting BMW Apps does NOT include a cradle for your iPhone. That needs to be purchased separately and installed. I am finalizing my M3 purchase and was told this by the BMW salesperson.

Dumb question: if you do get 6NR but don't have a cradle yet... what's there? blank plastic?

I was worried I'd show up in Germany without any accessories and there'd be a gaping hole in the center console filled with fragile but deadly-sharp connecting pins for my 5 year old to jack up.

Nothing like being a daddy to think of the worst-case scenario.

Nobody is talking about a MOST interface to access MOST devices. Read again what I posted.

The OBDII cable does matter in accessing MOST devices. The common Chinese cable cannot access certain MOST devices. I have tried in too many cars to count, have you?

There's no P/N for any Combox FSC.
